Say Yes to the Dress – Part V

This is my last post on my dress…so you know what that means…I FOUND ONE! My last post left off with me leaving the bridal shop in Alexandria primarily due to the fact that the dress just didn’t feel right and I felt like it looked a little cheap. I made an appointment with a shop in Richmond and had to drive down for the day to prayerfully find my wedding dress.

Say Yes to the Dress – Part IV

When I last left off, I’d had quite a day and decided to take my parents and sister back to the first bridal shop to see the expensive, but beautiful dress. I left…with nothing, and gave myself a deadline (the trunk show) to try on other dresses before I purchased this dress. I just didn’t want to drag out the entire process and worried that I’d end up in dress paralysis and find anything. So I made an appointment the following weekend at another bridal shop that a co-worker told me about. I waited for what seemed like forever before the day of my appointment finally came.

Say Yes to the Dress – Part III

When I last left off, I had just experienced the infamous Running of the Brides with my Dad, Mom, and sister. After eating and debriefing, I decided that since my parents were in DC, we should try to visit the first bridal salon to try on dresses. This way, they could see the dress I was still semi-loving in the flesh. I say semi-loving because while the dress fit my body type perfectly (and I’m not just saying that), it didn’t have that “Wow” and I didn’t get that “I feel like a bride” vibe from it. Dana kept saying that she didn’t feel like the dress would necessarily photograph well, which to Daniel and I, is really important because after all is said and done – we’ll have memories, photographs, and a video to reflect on.

Say Yes to the Dress – Part II

I don’t know what I was thinking when I decided that attending the Running of the Brides would be a good idea. I even emailed some of my friends and talking to our travel agent about it. Everyone thought it was a great idea and offered lots of variety. Secretly, I was hoping to find a very similar dress to the one I loved for a fraction of the price. Anyway, the closer we got to Running of the Brides, the more nervous and agitated I got just thinking about it all. Women in team t-shirts running and knocking one another over was just not my idea of shopping for a wedding dress. I’ll be honest and say that I wanted to call the entire thing off, but my parents had decided to drive up to go with me so I was stuck…off to Running of the Brides, yay.

Say Yes to the Dress – Part 1

One of the most exciting parts of the wedding planning process is shopping for a wedding dress…right?! Wrong! While many women say they haveĀ  dreamed about their wedding and wedding dress since they were kids, I am not one of these women. While I knew that one day I’d be married, I can’t say that I collected inspiration or gave it a lot of thought prior to being engaged. So one of the first things (okay, maybe third) I did when my Mom presented me with the collection of wedding magazines, was to start looking at what type of dress I thought I’d like.
